What is Personal Injury Protection Coverage?

Burnside Law

Most often referred to as “PIP,” this is a no-fault coverage that is generally found in most Kentucky issued policies. Kentucky is a partial “no-fault” state.

What this means is that by law, the first $10,000.00 in medical expenses and lost wages are covered by one’s own insurance policy even if the accident was someone else’s fault.

What many people in the Tri-State who live in Ohio and West Virginia do not know is that if you are involved in a crash in Kentucky, Kentucky law provides that you are also covered by PIP under your own policy or through a State administered program.

PIP can be confusing, but it is a coverage that should be utilized in every motor vehicle crash.

If you have been in an accident in Kentucky and have questions about PIP please call Michael Walker in our Huntington, West Virginia office.
